Statutory Requirements: The Council consists of: (a) a medical practitioner appointed by the Governor on the recommendation of the Executive Director, or other person nominated to preside in accordance with the provisions of subsection (3); and (b) not less than 5 nor more than 7 other members appointed by the Governor, of whom: (i) one shall be a medical practitioner who is a specialist in radiology or radiotherapy; (ii) one shall be a medical practitioner who is a physician specialising in nuclear medicine; (iii) one shall be a person who possesses relevant qualifications or experience as a physicist; (iv) one shall be a person who possesses relevant qualifications or experience as a radiation engineer or electronic engineer; (v) one shall be representative of the interests of tertiary educational institutions; and (vi) 2 may be nominated by the Minister with the advice of the other members of the Council as being persons having special knowledge of the problems of radiation hazards. The medical practitioner appointed under subsection (2)(a) on the recommendation of the Executive Director shall be the chairman of the Council and shall preside at any meeting at which he is present, but the Governor on the recommendation of the Executive Director may nominate a person who is a medical practitioner to act as deputy chairman and in the absence or incapacity of the chairman of the Council the person so appointed shall be entitled to attend and shall preside at any meeting and shall have and may exercise all the powers of the chairman of the Council during the period in which he acts in that office.
Requirements: Subject to subsection (1), a member shall hold office for such period, not exceeding 3 years, as is specified in the instrument under which he is appointed, but is eligible, unless otherwise disqualified, for reappointment.
