Statutory Requirements: There are to be 5 members of the Board comprising: (a) a person to be Chairman, appointed by the Governor; (b) 2 persons appointed by the Governor; (c) the chief executive officer, by reason of the office; and (d) a police officer nominated by the Commissioner of Police. The membership of the Board is to include: (a) at least one person who has an aboriginal background and is appointed from a panel of persons nominated by aboriginal community organisations that have been invited by the Minister to submit nominations; and (b) at least one person appointed from a panel of persons nominated by community organisations that have been invited by the Minister to submit nominations. The Chairman is to be: (a) a person who is or has been a judge of the Supreme Court or the District Court; or (b) a person who is, and has for at least 8 years been, a legal practitioner (as defined in the Legal Practice Act 2003). The members appointed under subsection (3)(a) and (b) are to have such skills and experience with young persons as the Minister considers appropriate. A person appointed to be a member of the Board holds office for such term, not longer than 3 years, as is specified in the instrument of appointment and, upon the expiration of the term, is eligible for reappointment. A person who is a member of the Board by reason of being the chief executive officer ceases to be a member when he or she ceases to be the chief executive officer. A person who is a member of the Board by reason of being a police officer ceases to be a member when he or she resigns as a member or ceases to be a police officer or when another police officer is nominated by the Commissioner of Police.
